A Little Peek Inside the New House

After many hours of work, we've finally removed basically all of the former owner's stuff from the place, and will be able to start slowly moving in some of our own things over the next few weeks.

I have many many ideas about little projects I want to do in the house eventually (most of them things we can handle ourselves - new paint colors, refinishing woodwork, etc.).  But I think I need to just start writing most of them down in a list instead of sharing every last idea with my husband, because he seems to be getting very overwhelmed by my enthusiasm.  The other day, he had this epiphany moment (so he thought), and suddenly got this big relieved smile on his face.  "Ohhh - I know what it is!" he said, "this is just you 'nesting' because you're 9-months pregnant!  After the baby's born, you won't be like this anymore!"  haha....mmm, I don't know about that.  I don't think he understands the urge most women would naturally feel to take a new house and turn it into their home.  I will still have many of these ideas in mind, I am sure!

Anyways, here's some photos I snapped the other day while we were over there cleaning up.

These French doors will be coming down soon, and probably live in the basement for the entire time we live in this house.  Unfortunately, French doors and little kids do not mix!

She included her entire dining room set in the deal.  It's beautiful and matches the style of the house really well, but we still have to figure out what to do about the fact that we now own *two* really nice dining room sets... :-/

I've always dreamed of having stained glass windows!

We have an outdoors!!

  1. The house looks great! Love the stained glass windows, they're very pretty. Personally I'd keep the french doors. That way you can keep little ones out of the dining room if you don't want them in there. We homeschool in the dining room and frequently have the close the gates to keep the toddler from pestering her older sister while she does her work.

  2. Oh my goodness! It's so beautiful! I'd leave the french doors too and just have something holding them open (securely somehow). It would be so nice to close the areas off if you ever wanted to. But those built in bookshelves?! All of them! I love it. I so hope our next home has them.

  5. Congratulations!

We kept one door up and took the other one down with something in front to block them putting a hand/head/arm through. It's worked although there are many days I wish they were both down.

Let's talk about your extra dining set...

  6. Very pretty Christine. I love hardwood. I know what you mean about the French doors but isn't there someway to keep them? Sometimes I really wish there was a way for us block off a room to keep the toddler out of the mix. Those could really come in handy.

  7. Everyone wants me to keep up the French doors! The problem is, the house has a circular floor-plan, so toddlers could still just go through the kitchen and get into the dining room...unless I put up a baby gate there too. And I would love to have as few obstacles in the house as possible! Also, the area where the doors open against the dining room wall could be a good spot for furniture, extra dining chairs, etc....but only if it's clear of big doors!

  9. It's beautiful! Our house has stained glass, too, as do many in our neighborhood. I love it. I can see wanting to change that yellow paint...

We just bought a house and I am filling up with ideas of how I will change it someday a lot faster than I'm filling boxes with stuff here. It's beautiful but there's just this urge to make it mine, especially as it's supposed to be our ''forever house''. In time I'm sure we'll be able to do all the things I dream of, but right now I think I need to concentrate more on patience and less on planning!

Looking forward to another photo tour once you're all moved in.

  10. So beautiful! I love the stained glass :) And my grandparents had french doors in their house AND 10 kids - they made it work somehow :P I remember them just being open all the time, though!
