Down to One?

It seems to me like Sly is ready to start shifting from two naps a day to just one. He used to be pretty precise about needing one at 10am and 3pm each day. But this week, I haven't been able to get him to sleep at those times. Most days, he will not sleep as early as 10 anymore. He stays up, full of energy, until he finally gets too tired - around 11 or noon. And then the afternoon nap doesn't always happen, or is short.

If I am correct that his body wants to take just one nap a day, does anyone have suggestions for helping the transition?

  1. We transitioned Matthew to one nap in about a week's time. We just kept him up and going until about 12:30 each day. Sometimes that meant me rocking his car seat in the car and singing at the top of my lungs. lol We found it easier to keep him out of the house in the mornings to keep him more active and entertained and not really want to sleep. After about a week, Matthew was easily able to make it until 12:30. We started the one nap a day at 9 months, and it was the best thing for all of us. Until then, he'd take a monster nap in the morning and refuse to sleep in the afternoon, leaving us all cranky by his bedtime. Now he goes down at 12:30 and sleeps until almost 3:30. It's a wonderful thing.

  2. No advice, but 11 is the time my godson takes his (now single) nap every day. It sounds like maybe Sly is working out the transition himself?
